Doing the sushi thing properly for the first time was quite an experience. I’d only ever been to Yo! Sushi once and didn’t really get it, the conveyor belt scared me and the tacky plastic bowls were too difficult to fish the food out from. But, being a huge fan of sushi, well, those little packets you get from the supermarket, I wasn’t willing to write off the cuisine forever. So, when my friend suggested Mai Sushi in Kings Cross I was as keen as a puppy being taken to the park.
Mai Sushi is an authentic Japanese restaurant (we even had a pot of green tea), it’s tiny inside and you find yourself squeezing through bamboo and a maze of chairs and tables, to use the loo, or hang up your coat.
What I love most about sushi is you feel pretty healthy eating it, there is no dreaded food-coma-feeling after. I couldn’t even try and tell you what we went for, but everything that arrived in the wooden boat, yes, I said boat, was delightful and I want to do the whole thing again.
The restaurant style is very relaxed, even for a Friday night I was dressed casual, having come straight from the library and fit in nicely. I guess being so close to Kings Cross and Euston, they attract all sorts in there, backpackers, business men, tourists and locals.
I’m all about gingham right now so I had my red gingham top on, light blue MOM jeans and vintage fur coat to keep me warm. The over the top sleeves do make me feel a bit like a Disney character when I’m wearing this blouse, so I have to be really careful what I wear it with. I’m hoping the Dr Martens gave the look a bit of an edge, you can tell me if it worked or not.
Until next time, peace and kisses
